Service members celebrate their residency matches
Military members of the MD Class of 2025 recently learned where they will be serving their residencies within the armed forces.
This event marks a pivotal milestone in their journey to becoming military physicians.
After earning their medical degrees, military service members typically pursue residency training at military medical centers across the country. These centers provide specialized environments that prepare physicians to serve military personnel and their families.
Military physicians play an essential role in healthcare delivery within the armed forces, working in diverse settings such as military hospitals, hospital ships and international medical centers. They also contribute to humanitarian efforts, providing care to victims of natural disasters and crises worldwide.
“Your decision to enter into a life of service is a testament to your character and commitment,” said Alfred Abuhamad, MD, executive vice president of Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University and dean of Eastern Virginia Medical School. “I can think of no greater community service than defending our nation and providing care to those who confront danger on this country’s behalf.”
This year’s celebration also recognized two additional service members who participated in the event. These individuals will learn their residency placements during the civilian match in March.
