The American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure returns this spring and the Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at ODU team needs your help to make it a success. The event brings together cyclists and supporters to raise funds for diabetes research, clinical care, education and advocacy.
Diabetes poses a significant health challenge in the southeastern Virginia. Approximately 175,000 residents are living with the disease, although many may be undiagnosed. Notably, some neighborhoods in Norfolk, Newport News and Portsmouth report diabetes prevalence rates as high as 25 percent.
Participants can ride alongside the team from Macon & Joelan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at ODU or make a donation to support the cause. The Tour de Cure offers cycling routes for all experience levels, making it an inclusive event for both seasoned riders and beginners. Every mile ridden and every dollar raised helps advance efforts to improve the lives of those affected by diabetes.
“As clinicians, educators, and researchers, we are deeply committed to improving diabetes prevention, management, and care in our community,” says Po Chou, chief executive officer for EVMS Medical Group at ODU. “Through our work we strive to advance innovative treatments, provide high-quality care and educate future healthcare professionals to continue the fight against diabetes.”
