EVMS celebrates impact of creative arts therapies
EVMS is celebrating the impact of art therapy and other life-enhancing mental health professions March 10-16 as part of Creative Arts Therapies Week. From painting to poetry, music to movement, these therapies empower individuals to express, heal and thrive.
Join EVMS in spreading awareness, igniting inspiration and embracing the beauty of healing through creativity. Professional development workshops will be held for art therapists and counselors on Saturday, March 16, in Lester Hall, Room 107. Admission is $135 for the full workshop, $90 for VATA members. Learn more and register here.
EVMS Art Therapy and Counseling also invites the EVMS community to explore a pop-up art show featuring artwork created by participants of "Racism is a Public Health Crisis: We Must Articulate, Review, and Tackle (A.R.T.)." The art-based workshop series included expert presentations on the impact of racism on stress, cardiovascular disease and obesity among African Americans in Hampton Roads followed by the creation of response art and discussions facilitated by Eileen Douglas, PhD, Associate Professor for the School of Health Professions. Artwork will be on display in Lester Hall (March 11-18), Lewis Hall (March 18-25) and Waitzer Hall (March 25-April1).
