The Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Fellowship is accredited by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) and recruits one fellows per year.

Our fellowship participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). We submit our rank list to NRMP at the end of September. Match Day is the first Wednesday of October.

Applicants must apply and download the application through the AAGL Fellowship Program website. Applications are due May 1, 2023.

Eligible applicants must have:

  • Received their MD or DO degree from a program accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or American Osteopathic Association
  • Attended an ACGME-accredited residency program

Graduates of medical schools outside of the U.S. or Canada must hold a valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate.

Applicants must include the following materials with their application:

  • Photo
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Letter(s) of recommendation
  • Personal statement
  • United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores
  • ECFMG report (if applicable)
  • Transcripts
  • Medical Student Performance Evaluations (MSPE)
  • Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) in-house scores

The selection process is based on the following:

  • Personal interviews with department faculty
  • Letter(s) of recommendation
  • USMLE scores
  • Candidate's interest in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery
  • Candidate's clinical and research interests
  • Honors, awards, accomplishments, achievements, experience

Invitations for interviews are sent in the spring. Interviews are scheduled from July to September. Fellowship training starts August 1.

Our institution is in the process of negotiating an integration with Old Dominion University. If this occurs, it will not impact the daily activities of residents or fellows.
