Benign Gynecology Elective
Course number: OBG407
Course description: The purpose of this elective is to provide students with further experience in inpatient and outpatient benign gynecology. The student will function as a sub-intern in the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of women with various gynecologic problems. It will include both inpatient and outpatient experiences, with participation in clinics, gynecologic surgeries and ongoing inpatient care.
Objectives:
- Increase knowledge and experience in the differential diagnosis and management of benign gynecologic diseases
- Gain practical experience with pelvic examination
- Gain experience with other modalities of outpatient and inpatient evaluation of common gynecologic problems
- Learn the indications for gynecologic surgical procedures
Distribution of student’s effort:
- Patient contact: 75% outpatient, 25% inpatient
- Rounds: 10 hours per week
- Conferences: 3 to 4 hours per week
- Faculty contact time: At least 15 hours per week
