Combined Internal Medicine & Geriatrics Residency

New name, same mission

We are proud to announce that Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) is now Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences Eastern Virginia Medical School at Old Dominion University. While our name has changed, our commitment to building a healthier community remains the same. Through our nationally recognized Graduate Medical Education programs, we continue to provide comprehensive, community-based training across multiple hospitals and clinics. This integration with ODU enhances our research and collaboration opportunities, further empowering us to address healthcare disparities and advance medical education.

Why Internal Medicine and Geriatrics?

As one of only two U.S. programs that combine a residency and fellowship in geriatric medicine and internal medicine, our training prepares geriatricians to deliver evidenced-based, patient-centered care.

After the three-year residency, our trainees are board-eligible in Internal Medicine. After completing the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship in year 4, graduates are eligible for certification in the subspecialty of Geriatric Medicine. Alumni practice in community, hospital, post-acute care, long-term care, VA medical care and rehab settings. Our graduates also excel as educators and fellowship directors, emerging as leaders in the field.
