Research Bootcamp

On August 26, the Department of Medicine (formerly Internal Medicine) was delighted to host over 40 members of the community for our Research Boot Camp.  From theoretical considerations of study design to immediately actionable tips on manuscript publication, our Saturday event was packed full of expert guidance.  The department would like to express its gratitude for the knowledge and enthusiasm exhibited by today’s speakers:

• Rehan Qayyum, Internal Medicine

Workshop 1: Dr. Qayyum helped the audience learn how to develop an effective research question.

Workshop 2: Dr. Fang delved into the nuances of selecting a study population.

Research Boot Camp participants had the opportunity to take notes, reflect, and ask questions throughout the day.

Workshop 3: Ms. Luchau helped the participants learn more about protecting patients' right when engaging in research.

Workshop 4: Dr. Toepp reminded us of the types and relative strengths of various study designs.

Workshop 5: After a convivial lunch, Dr. Toepp helped the audience understand the ingredients to establishing causality. 

Workshop 6: Dr. Qayyum finished the day by providing practical advice on sample size calculations and manuscript publication.
