Application Process

Our Surgery Residency's interview season opens in mid-September. Candidates must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Paper applications will not be accepted.

A preliminary review of each applicant will be made upon receipt of a complete application and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Complete applications consist of all ERAS materials and the items below:

  • Dean's letter
  • Transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • USLME Step 1 score, Step 2 preferred
  • Personal statement

International applicants must also have J-1 visas and have gained previous U.S. clinical experience.

Once applications are reviewed, applicants selected to interview will be sent an email using the email address from the ERAS application. All application materials should be in ERAS by Nov. 30 for consideration. Applicants not chosen for an interview will also be notified by email.

Interviews

Interview days consist of a short overview of the day's events followed by a welcome message from the Program Director, Dr. Rebecca Britt and Chair, Dr. L.D. Britt. Applicants have option to attend our Virtual Surgery Grand Rounds. Applicants interview with two faculty members and one chief resident.

A virtual reception is held Thursday evening prior to the interview day on Zoom. The reception is an opportunity for applicants to meet the residents informally.
