Rotation schedule

  • July: Physical medicine and rehabilitation pain management
  • August: Neurology and addiction medicine (2 weeks each)
  • September and October: Hospice
  • November and December: Physical medicine and rehabilitation pain management
  • January: Physical medicine and rehabilitation pain management and psychology (2 weeks each)
  • February: Physical medicine and rehabilitation pain management and airway management (2 weeks each)
  • March: Anesthesia pain management
  • April: Physical medicine and rehabilitation pain management
  • May: Physical medicine and rehabilitation pain management
  • June: Physical medicine and rehabilitation pain management

Hospice

Rotations are done at Hampton Veterans Administration Medical Center. This rotation includes inpatient pain management, end-of-life pain management and cancer pain management.

Physical medicine and rehabilitation pain management

Rotations are done at the Spine Center. This rotation includes:

  • Outpatient pain management
  • Fluoroscopically-guided procedures (including spinal cord stimulation (SCS) trials and idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) trials)
  • Spasticity management
  • Inpatient consults at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (including operating room time and a rotation with neurosurgery for intrathecal pump and stimulator implants)

The fellow will also participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.

Anesthesia pain management

This rotation is done at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. This rotation includes luoroscopically-guided procedures (including SCS trials) and outpatient pain management. The fellow will also participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.

Psychology

This rotation is done at the Spine Center. Fellows will focus on the psychological management of pain in an outpatient setting.

Airway management

This rotation is done at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. Fellows will focus on perioperative airway management.

Neurology

This rotation is done at Hampton Veterans Administration Medical Center. Fellows will focus on outpatient neurological evaluations and headaches.
