The Surgical Critical Care Fellowship recruits one fellow per year. Eligible applicants will receive, or have received, their MD or DO degree from a medical or osteopathic school approved by the Liaison Council for Medical Education. International Medical Graduates must have received an equivalent degree from a medical school recognized by the World Health Organization with valid possession of a Standard Certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. Applicants should have completed at least three years of residency to apply.

The Surgical Critical Care Fellowship participates in the National Residency Matching Program. We accept applications submitted through the SCC and ACS Fellowship Application Service (SAFAS).

Applications must include the following documents:

  • Photo
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
  • 3 Letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement
  • United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores
  • ECFMG report (if applicable)
  • Transcripts
  • Medical Student Performance Evaluations (MSPE)

The selection process is based on the following:

  • Personal interviews with department faculty
  • Letter(s) of recommendation
  • USMLE scores
  • Candidate's interest in maternal-fetal medicine
  • Candidate's clinical and research interests
  • Honors, awards, accomplishments, achievements, experience
  • Personal qualities such as motivation and integrity
