The Department of Medical Student Research of the Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is pleased to offer The Medical Student Research Training and Resource Center, a newly remodeled, 360sqft, small group focused resource and training center located in Lewis Hall Room 3021. The facility is designated solely for the usage of enrolled Eastern Virginia Medical School students and their mentors or participating faculty.

Facility Features

  • 24/7 badged access for medical students and faculty mentors.
  • Two individual workstations with access to electronic medical record systems and all available software packages.
  • Modular furniture and white boards for small group work

Facility Offerings

  • New PC workstations pre-loaded with:
  • JMP Pro 18 Statistical analysis and presentation software (unique to MSR)
  • SPSS
  • RStudio
  • ENDNOTE
  • Covidence
  • REDCap
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Full Audio/Visual capabilities for presentations including recording option
  • Staff from MSR will have resource hours for hands on assistance with student projects
  • Center is reservable for small group meetings and/or presentations

Upcoming Trainings and Events

The Medical Student Research Training and Resource Center will be offering multiple trainings and will play host to several events throughout the academic year. Current plans include:

  • Grand Opening Event
  • Small group training sessions on preplanned topics chosen by MSR
  • Supplemental small group trainings based on student feedback to routine MSR interest surveys
  • “Meet the Researcher” networking events where selected faculty will speak briefly about their research and be available for student questions and interactions
  • Social and stress relief events
