About the Interview Process

On the day of your interview you will have an opportunity to take a campus tour, guided by our current PA students in their first year of the program, hear from a panel of current students and alumni of the program, and receive a presentation from a representative from our Financial Aid department. You will have 2 individual interviews; one conducted by a PA Faculty Member and another by a member of our Community Faculty, as well as participate in a group interview. You will find out your exact schedule during the check-in process the morning of the day you register for.

  • Professional business attire is expected for your interview session.
  • A campus tour will be given during your day on campus. Please be mindful that comfortable footwear is recommended. Additionally July in South Eastern Virginia can be hot and humid.
  • If you are flying in for your interview, the closest airport to our campus is Norfolk International Airport (ORF).
  • Parking is available in the Visitor Parking Garage A. The garage is off Wagner Road and can be accessed via campus entrances 2 or 3. There is a $1 per hour parking fee -- cash only payment. Check out the EVMS map to locate the parking garage and the interview location (Lester Hall). Below you will see a small subsection of the map.
  • Interviews will be held in Lester Hall. You will check in at Room 355. As you exit the elevator side of the parking garage, turn right and walk along Children's Lane across Olney Road (toward the water fountain outside Brickell Medical Sciences Library). Continue along Children's Lane toward Raleigh Avenue. Lester Hall is located right behind Lewis Hall, northeast of the parking garage. Enter Lester Hall through the main doors in front of the green space.

Additional materials (e.g. resume, transcripts, publications or portfolios) are NOT NEEDED for the interview and will NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Rescheduling an Interview

Changes to an interview time day you previously selected are only allowed if there is availability. Please contact the Physician Assistant program for further assistance. Absence or withdrawal from the interview automatically forfeits the applicant’s consideration for a seat in the class.

After the Interview

Accepted Student Notification

Notification of acceptance into the PA program will be provided within 2 weeks of the final interviews. Applicants offered a seat in the January class must acknowledge acceptance of the offer within 10 calendar days of their notification by providing the following:

  1. An electronic response to the admissions offer and conditions of acceptance letter
  2. A non-refundable acceptance deposit ($500) to hold a seat in the class (will be applied toward tuition)
  3. A completed criminal background check (to include checking for sex offenses and crimes against minors or elderly)

A one-time extension of the response deadline may be granted upon request by the applicant.

Accepted Student Health Requirements

Students accepting the admissions offer and enrolling in the PA program must submit documentation of proof of childhood immunizations and recent tuberculosis screening results. Completion of all program health requirements is required prior to November 15.

Accepted Student Orientation

Applicants who have accepted a seat in the program are required to complete the online pre-orientation requirements and attend on-campus orientation in the beginning of January. This event includes critical information about the institution and our program, and provides students with the necessary means of accessing the campus parking lots, buildings, computer network and other functions critical to a smooth transition into the academic schedule.

Note: Noncompliance with the criminal background check, health requirements or attendance at orientation may be cause for revocation of admission offer.

Waitlist Status

Students who are not offered a seat in the program following interviews may be placed on a waitlist at the recommendation of the Admissions Committee and/or the program director, which is activated as necessary.. Rank or position on the waitlist will not be disclosed to candidates due to its dynamic nature.

A waitlist is valid from the close of the interview process through the first week of classes for which the student applied. Waitlisted applicants not advanced to a seat are not considered for admission to the following class without reapplication. See section on Reapplication.

Deferment

Questions about deferment of admission are only entertained after unpredicted life circumstances may interfere with expected matriculation or success in the program. All requests for deferment should be directed to the PA Program at 757.446.7158 and by submitting a deferment form via PURL. The program requires a statement from the applicant explaining why deferment has been requested, which will then be reviewed. The PA Program reserves the right to determine if the request warrants deferment or if the candidate will need to reapply in a future admission cycle. Should deferment be granted, the deposit is still required at the time of deferral in order to hold a seat in the program.
