Virtual Commencement Information Session

The Class of 2023 is required to attend the Virtual Commencement Information Session scheduled Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 10 a.m. EDT to help prepare for Saturday’s big event.

Commencement Ceremony

EVMS Commencement is Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Norfolk Scope. The ceremony begins promptly at 10 a.m. and lasts approximately 3 hours. Your arrival time and other details are below.

The Norfolk Scope is located at 201 E. Brambleton Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23510.

Parking

Check In

  • Enter through the Norfolk Scope Exhibition Hall doors (glass doors closest to the gate, not the box office entrance).
  • Norfolk Scope Exhibition Hall doors will open only for Graduates at 8 a.m.
  • Graduates must check in no later than 8:30 a.m. to ensure participation in the ceremony.
  • Guests will not be permitted into the Exhibition Hall or foyer. Guests may access the plaza door entrances at 8:45 a.m.
  • Processional line-up is facilitated by EVMS staff. Please check in at your program table and await further instruction for processional line-up.
  • Further instructions about protocol, seating and processional order will be provided on site.
  • If you no longer plan to attend, email EVMS Special Events.

Security and Personal Belongings

Enhanced security procedures have been implemented at Norfolk Scope. Upon entrance, all guests will be subject to physical and visual inspections, bag checks and/or wanding which will affect entrance times.

In order to expedite entry, please consider leaving personal items such as purses, bags, etc. in your vehicles. EVMS is not responsible for lost or stolen personal belongs. Please plan and schedule accordingly.

Personal belongings will not be permitted on the arena floor during the ceremony. Keys and cell phones only may be checked in with EVMS Police & Public Safety for the duration of the ceremony. Any items left at your program table or found after the ceremony will be returned to Lost and Found with EVMS Police & Public Safety.

Attire

Professional attire is required. Individuals who are not dressed appropriately will not be allowed to participate.

  • All participants must wear either pants, a dress or skirt. Shorts and jeans are not permitted.
  • Dark, low-heeled footwear is recommended. Athletic footwear and flip flops are not permitted.
  • No jewelry can be worn on or over your regalia.
  • Men wearing a collared shirt are required to wear a tie.
  • Men are requested to remove their mortarboard or tam for the national anthem.

Regalia

Graduates are responsible for bringing regalia to Commencement on Saturday, May 20, 2023. EVMS staff will be on site to assist with donning regalia, but please make note of some important information about academic regalia.

Mobile App

The EVMS Commencement app will keep graduates informed of Commencement deadlines and important updates. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Navigate to the Apple or Google Play App Store and search for Cvent Events.
  2. Use this event ID to search for Commencement: EVMS Grad2023. *Please note there is a space between EVMS and Grad2023.*
  3. Log in with your EVMS Email to view your schedule and other important details.

Livestream

The EVMS Commencement Ceremony will be streamed live on the EVMS.edu homepage and the Commencement website. Recordings of the ceremony will also be available after the event on a variety of platforms, as well as on the Commencement website.

COVID-19 and Public Health Information

EVMS will not require vaccinations or masks to attend EVMS Commencement. However, due to the nature of large gathering, close contact and potential risks, EVMS supports any individual who wishes to wear a mask during the ceremony.
