Joselyn Spence joined the community faculty at EVMS in Fall 2020 and teaches Individual Counseling & Psychotherapy and Cultural Humility. Joselyn is a Registered Art Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor and a 2013 graduate of the Counseling and Art Therapy Program at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Joselyn is also a graduate of the Candler School of Theology at the prestigious Emory University with a Master's of Divinity and chaplaincy concentration, and a graduate of the University of Virginia with a bachelors in Women and Gender Studies and African American Studies.

Joselyn works full-time as the Director of Mental Health and Wellness for a non-profit organization serving the U.S. and Canada, where she travels the country providing holistic wellness experiences and mental health resources. In her work, Joselyn merges her specializations with spirituality, art, holistic wellness, and yoga to provide culturally relevant trauma informed care to individuals and communities. Joselyn's previous teaching experience was working as an adjunct faculty member at Georgia College and State University in the Graduate Art Therapy department teaching Assessment, Human Growth and Development, History and Philosophy of Art Therapy, Internship/Practicum, and Thesis/Project chair.

She also served as a past Vice President of the Georgia Art Therapy Association. Joselyn has worked with diverse groups of people of all races, backgrounds and ages from 3 to 80, on a myriad of presenting problems and diagnoses as an art therapist and counselor in community agencies and school system with children and families, and a state hospital working in acute adult mental health and with forensic patients.
