Diane R. Holland, MPA, MHRM

In July 2021, EVMS Diversity and Inclusion hired Diane Holland, MPA, MHRM, to serve in the role of as Assistant Director, Training and Ombudsperson.

“Diane filled a critical role identified in our recent strategic plan to advance health equity and inclusion,” says Mekbib Gemeda, Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion. “She will work on enhancing our diversity and inclusion training and serve as an institutional ombudsperson providing a safe listening space for staff and faculty. Our thanks to the search committee which consisted of staff, faculty and students.” 

In June 2023, Mrs. Holland was named the Director of Diversity and Inclusion. In this role, she will lead and implement DEI initiatives, and assist in shaping an academic and work culture that embraces diversity, nurtures inclusivity, and ultimately enhances the institution’s performance.

Mrs. Holland has 20 years of experience in counseling, litigation, and investigations. In her most recent role as Civil Rights Investigator at Norfolk State University, she was instrumental in building the standard operating procedures for the university’s Title IX program. She provided training and support to students, faculty, staff and administrators.

In addition to her role at Norfolk State University, Mrs. Holland served as a Trainer/Instructor III for the Virginia Department of Social Services. She provided statewide continuing education to family services staff and supervisors in the areas of social work skill development, state guidance, coaching and leadership training.

Mrs. Holland’s previous experience includes various managerial roles under the human services umbrella servicing children and families in the public and private sectors. She also has worked for Richmond Public Schools’ Talent Office in Employee Relations providing conflict mediation and investigations for Title IX and employee relations matters. 

Mrs. Holland holds master’s degrees in public administration and human resource management. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She is a certified master life coach and qualified mental health professional. She will obtain a certification in conflict resolution from Cornell University in December 2021.
