Barry J. Knapp, MD, RDMS , FACEP
I have been involved in both graduate and undergraduate medical education for the past 25 years. I currently serve as the Chidester Endowed Chair of Emergency Medicine and Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). In addition, I serve as the Assistant Dean of Ultrasound Education at EVMS. I’ve recently transitioned (7/2022) after 13 years of service as the Residency Program Director for the EVMS Department of Emergency Medicine. I am the founder and former director of the EVMS Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Fellowship.
I have served as the Operational Medical Director for Norfolk Fire Rescue for over fifteen years. I am the former Chief Medical Officer for the federal disaster response team- VA-1 DMAT. I’ve deployed to numerous national and international disasters, including the Hattian earthquake and Hurricane Katrina.
I have been a primary investigator in numerous research studies in clinical medicine, ultrasound, and medical education. I am currently active as an Oral Board Examiner and Item Writer for the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM).
