Masking

On March 1, 2022, EVMS lifted the mask mandate with the exception of EVMS Medical Group departments, classrooms and the testing center. Additional guidance regarding masking is provided below.

In addition to EVMS Medical Group departments, masks are required in common spaces in clinical buildings including lobbies, elevators, hallways and bathrooms on clinical floors. Clinical buildings include Hofheimer Hall, Andrews Hall, Williams Hall/Strelitz Diabetes and SGF Jones Institute.

Masks are not required in the following spaces.

  • Shared break rooms located in clinical departments (e.g. resident rooms, lunch spaces, etc.)
  • Study rooms in all buildings
  • Classrooms, labs and other academic rooms when used for individual or small group study spaces
  • Wellness Centers

Social distancing should continue to be observed as much as practical.

Individuals who received a COVID-19 vaccine exemption must continue to wear masks in accordance with the exemption terms. This requirement will continue until the local transmission level is classified as "Low."

Although wearing masks is optional, COVID-19 remains active in the region, as is shown by moderate to substantial transmission levels. Individuals who want to continue to wear a mask for any reason are free to do so. Social distancing should continue to be observed as much as is practical and is recommended for individuals who are not up to date on COVID-19 vaccines or those at higher risk of getting sick with COVID-19.

International Travel

International travel by students continues to be prohibited with the exception of certain cases where a student is invited to present at a scientific or academic meeting, including poster and paper presentations. These cases must be submitted to the Task Force and Risk Management for consideration and approval. Only students up to date on their COVID vaccine may submit an application.

See Travel Guidance for more information.

As in the past, these guidelines could change based on future conditions. EVMS will continue to follow the relevant CDC guidelines.
