Sent on behalf of the Continuity of Operations Task Force

We have written several notes concerning COVID-19 vaccinations during the past few weeks. Sentara has recently worked with our clinical departments to provide vaccines to the faculty and staff. Residents/fellows have been vaccinated at their various host sites.

EVMS expects to receive a sufficient allocation of the Pfizer vaccine to offer vaccines to remaining EVMS faculty, staff and students who are interested in receiving the vaccine. Clinic dates and times will be announced once we have a firm delivery date from the VDH and you will receive an email to schedule an appointment when appropriate. By scheduling the first appointment, you are committing to receiving both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. You will be required to show up your appointment on time and return for a follow up appointment 21 days later. The vaccine is in high demand and we must do our part to avoid any waste, including partial vaccination.

EVMS will administer vaccines in accordance with current CDC and VDH guidelines and will begin offering vaccines based on the following priorities:

  1. All healthcare providers and students involved in direct patient care not previously vaccinated
  2. All other clinical personnel
  3. All EVMS employees and students who are:
    1. 65 years or older
    2. 16-64 with an underlying medical condition
    3. Non-clinical personnel in clinical departments, clinical research personnel and security
  4. All remaining EVMS employees and students
  5. EVMS medical community faculty

The vaccine is not required for any EVMS employee or student and is completely voluntary at this time. However, the best way to fight a virus and reduce transmission is through vaccination. Please consult with your healthcare provider with any questions as to whether the vaccine is right for you.

We remind everyone that even after vaccinations are widespread it is absolutely essential that our masking, social distancing and sanitation protocols continue to be followed. The risk of transmission of the COVID virus will be mitigated, but will remain for months to come.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
