Health equity is defined in many ways by many organizations. In alignment with the AAMC pilot, the HEI follows the World Health Organization’s (WHO) definition of health equity.
Health Equity is the absence of avoidable, unfair, or remediable differences among groups of people, whether those groups are defined socially, economically, demographically, or geographically or by other means of stratification.
To better understand the full meaning of health equity, the Brock Institute reviewed definitions published by fourteen leading health promotion entities, including the WHO, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
