Strengthen your connection with us by sharing your time and talent. EVMS alumni volunteers are ambassadors, organizers, energizers and educators. The following volunteer opportunities offer ways to impact EVMS and the lives of current students and fellow alumni. We encourage you to explore these roles and consider which one is right for you.
To volunteer or learn more about these opportunities, please contact the Alumni Relations Office at 757.965.8500 or alumni@evms.edu.
Serve as a Community Educator
Community educators play an integral role in our students' educational experience, guiding and teaching students in perfecting skills in a real-world environment. Share your expertise and professional passion as a preceptor in one or more of our educational programs. Review our Community Educator Opportunities and let us know if you would like to help train the future of healthcare.
MD Community Educators must complete the process to become community faculty prior to volunteering as a preceptor.
Become a HOPES Volunteer Provider
In 2011, EVMS students recognized a need for healthcare within the uninsured population in Norfolk and responded by establishing the first student-run free clinic, HOPES (Health Outreach Partnership of EVMS Students), to improve quality of life in the community by providing primary and specialty medical care.
HOPES is the only free clinic in Norfolk and the first student-run free clinic in Virginia. It is staffed by volunteers, residents, physicians, and physician assistants across numerous specialties and EVMS students.
Alumni mentor and assist students in providing healthcare to HOPES patients in Norfolk and Portsmouth.
Be a Mock Interviewer
Help prepare MD and PA students for residency and placement interviews by serving as a mock interviewer. This option is a wonderful opportunity to meet and support current students preparing to embark upon their careers as future healthcare professionals.
Join the Alumni Board
The Alumni Board provides guidance and leadership to the EVMS Alumni Association by participating in programs, meetings and committees. Board members are MD and HP alumni. Contact us to learn more about member requirements.
Help build the next class
Every year, thousands of students apply to EVMS, and alumni admissions interviewers play the critical role of serving as EVMS ambassadors. As an interviewer, you share your knowledge of your alma mater while allowing the student to share their story, putting a face to their application for the admissions team. Join us in helping to select the next class of EVMS alumni.
Share your EVMS experience
Help welcome prospective students by sharing your EVMS story. Alumni Ambassadors are needed at campus events such as campus visitation and open houses.
Dine with an alum
Alumni play a significant role in a student’s experience. Dine with an Alum is a unique opportunity for alumni to engage with students in a small group setting while sharing a meal. Dine with Alum events are hosted and sponsored by alumni and can be held on campus or at local venues. Alumni Relations staff will assist with all arrangements to make hosting easy and convenient.
Meet your match
Each year our MD students match into top residency and fellowship programs around the country. Connect with students by welcoming them to your area over coffee, by touring your city or inviting them dinner.
Plan a mini reunion
Mini Reunions are alumni social gatherings during Alumni Weekend or a special occasion you want to plan with your fellow EVMS alumni. If you have a group you’d like to reconnect with, let us know and we’ll help you get the ball rolling. It’s a great way to reunite with the people who made your medical school experience memorable.
