Senior Associate Vice President, Development and Alumni Relations, and Executive Director for EVMS Foundation Fund
Sylvia Ameen, MPA, serves as the Senior Associate Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations department at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University (VHS) and is also a member of their senior management team. Ms. Ameen currently oversees twenty people across two departments. She also serves as the Executive Director for the EVMS Foundation Fund and works closely with the EVMS Foundation Fund Board of Trustees. The Foundation’s primary role is to ensure that philanthropic support advances the Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences (VHS) at Old Dominion University to improve health in the local, regional, and national community.
Ms. Ameen has fourteen years of senior executive experience and more than three decades serving as a leader in development, institutional advancement, marketing and communications at not-for-profit and healthcare organizations. Prior to joining VHS, she served as Executive Director of the Froedtert Hospital Foundation and Managing Senior Director of Philanthropy for the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and was responsible for leading a team of major gift officers, creative services, and stewardship teams. In addition to strengthening faculty relationships, revitalizing the hospital foundation board, leading both philanthropic communications and stewardship programs, and carrying a principal-level portfolio, Ms. Ameen contributed to the strategic planning and launch of a transformational and comprehensive $1 billion campaign for the academic mission of Froedtert Hospital and MCW.
During her 30-year tenure with All Children’s Hospital in Florida she served in a variety of roles such as Associate Vice President and Vice President of the hospital foundation. These roles coincided with the integration of All Children’s Hospital with Johns Hopkins Medicine. During this time of critical transition, Ms. Ameen led the philanthropic strategy and launched a $150 million comprehensive campaign to support the hospital’s evolution from a regional referral center to an academic research institution. Ms. Ameen’s leadership with Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital continued as Vice President for Marketing, Communications and Culture — a role in which she integrated strategic marketing, creative development, brand reputation, effective communications and organizational culture in the organization’s quest to transform from a regional referral center to a leading pediatric academic health system in the State of Florida.
