Mekbib Gemeda, EdD

As Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion at EVMS, Mekbib Gemeda leads efforts to build institutional capacity and human capital to advance health equity. Prior to joining EVMS, Dr. Gemeda served as the Assistant Dean for Diversity Affairs and Community Health and founding Director of the Center for the Health of the African Diaspora at New York University School of Medicine. Mekbib has served on numerous national efforts to reduce health disparities and increase diversity in biomedicine including the Steering Committee of the Group on Diversity and Inclusion of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).

Diversity and inclusion at EVMS

Integrating diversity and inclusion into the function of a medical school is important. This professional development byte addresses the key question of how to include people who are traditionally excluded into the area of academic medicine. Research has shown that diversity enhances training outcomes for students, faculty and employees.
