    • Dr. Robert Archer is the Frank Harrell Redwood Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. Archer is the author of over 150 articles and book chapters on psychological assessment issues. He is also author of the texts, Using the MMPI With Adolescents and MMPI-A: Assessing Adolescent Psychopathology (3rd edition) (Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, 1987; 2005), and coauthor of the MMPI-A Casebook (PAR, 1994) and Essentials of MMPI-A Assessment (Wiley, 2002). Dr. Archer recently edited the text, Forensic Uses of Clinical Assessment Instruments (Lawrence Erlbaum, 2006) and is a past-President of the Assessment Section (IX) of the Clinical Psychology Division (12) of the American Psychological Association. Dr. Archer served on the advisory committee to the University of Minnesota Press for the development of the MMPI-A and is coauthor of the MMPI-A Manual. He is currently working on a series of research projects related to forensic applications of the MMPI-2 and the MMPI-A. Dr. Archer is the Founding Editor of Assessment, a quarterly journal that began publication in March 1994 and served as the Associate Editor for the Journal of Personality Assessment from 1991 through 2002. Dr. Archer is working in conjunction with Auke Tellegen, Yossef Ben-Porath, and Richard Handel to develop the MMPI-A-RF.

    • ‌Abby Calisch, Psy.D., LPC, ATR-BC, Director of the Graduate Art Therapy Program, is a clinical psychologist, licensed professional counselor and a registered and board-certified art therapist. She is a Professor in Health Professions and the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Psychiatry.

      She received her B.A. in Sculpture from the University of Colorado, her M.S. in Art Therapy from Hahnemann Medical University (now Drexel) and her Psy.D. from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology (now Argosy-Chicago).

      Prior to coming to EVMS, Dr. Calisch’s academic positions included professor of graduate psychology at Argosy University in Dallas, associate professor and director of art therapy at the University of Louisville, associate professor and director of the art therapy program at Concordia University (Montreal, Quebec), and assistant professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

      Her clinical appointments have included founding art therapist at Michael Reese Hospital, Director of Expressive Therapies at the University of Chicago Billings Hospital, Director of the Expressive Therapies Department at University Hospital, and art therapist at Central State Hospital-Louisville, Presbyterian Hospital-Dallas and Southwestern Medical Center-Zale Lipshy-Dallas.

      ‌Professionally, Dr. Calisch has served as chair of the Educational Program Approval Board for several terms and as a director on the Board of the American Art Therapy Association for two terms. She has presented at numerous local, national and international conferences and has published on the topics of supervision, cultural diversity, problem- focused art therapy and theoretical orientations.

    • Dr. Cubic specializes in the treatment of eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and women’s issues. She obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Louisiana State University (1992) and completed two years of extramural fellowship training in cognitive therapy at the Center for Cognitive Therapy (Univ. of PA) and the Beck Institute. She is a founding fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy (ACT) and is the only ACT-certified cognitive therapist in the Tidewater area of Virginia. Dr. Cubic supervises and teaches CBT for graduate students, psychology interns, psychiatry residents, and practicing clinicians. She has made multiple national presentations on cognitive therapy and eating disorders.

    • Dr. Fore-Arcand has worked in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Eastern Virginia Medical School for the past 20 years.  She coordinates education, Co-Directs the Addiction Medicine Curriculum and is Assistant Director of the Psychiatry Clerkship as well as serves on the Education Policy Committee for the Psychiatry Residency and coordinates volunteer research assistants within the department.

    • My research is focused in the area of cardiovascular behavioral medicine and psychiatric/behavioral genetics. My interdisciplinary research program aims to study the molecular-genetic and environmental influences on:

      • lifestyle-related risk factors for cardiovascular disease

      Most recently, my research focuses on neurobiologic mechanisms that may account for the co-morbidity between negative affectivity, depression and coronary artery disease using a molecular genetics approach.

    • Dr. Spiegel joined EVMS in 2001 after almost a decade in private practice. He obtained his medical degree from SUNY-Health Science Center at Brooklyn, where he first gained an interest in cognitive therapy for anxiety disorders. Dr. Spiegel then completed his psychiatry residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock and Hershey-Penn State. His areas of interest include behavioral treatments for geriatrics and the interface between cognitive therapy and psychopharmacology for anxiety and mood disorders. Dr. Spiegel is a clinical supervisor for psychiatry residents and psychology interns and presents to community mental health professionals.
