IN
MEMORY OF:
Timothy
Bos, Ph.D. Professor
1955-2007

Tim joined the EVMS family in 1989 and was an accomplished research scientist, a talented educator,
an effective and enthusiastic leader among our faculty and an individual with the highest regard for
and dedication to EVMS.
In addition to providing state-of-the-art, highly regarded lectures in
his discipline, Dr. Bos worked diligently with his faculty colleagues and championed efforts that led
to significant revisions of the M2 Medical Microbiology curriculum. In collaboration with now-retired
EVMS professor Dr. Ken Somers, Dr. Bos co-authored a review text and flashcards in microbiology and
infectious diseases as part of Lange's "USMLE Road Map" series.
Tim also was a champion
for research and in addition to leading a highly successful, nationally recognized and externally funded
program in cancer biology, he dedicated his time and energy and served with distinction as Director
of the Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. program. Always forward thinking and unselfish, Tim worked with and for
the embellishment of the graduate program and engendered in his students and those of others a spirit of
enthusiasm and confidence. Tim also took time out of his busy schedule to mentor several medical
students in research.
Importantly, Tim was a truly genuine person; there are none finer. He had a
quick wit, a warm smile, and a sincere concern for his students and colleagues that shone through
in everything he did. Recently, his students, on their own initiative, made him a personal card
offering him their best wishes, and this thoughtful gesture meant a great deal to him. Tim’s
Chair, Dr. Edward Johnson, perhaps best described Tim and his unwavering and critical participation in
several aspects of EVMS by stating “I don't have to tell you that Tim was a valued faculty
member as well as a beloved friend and family man. From my perspective, I am awed by the degree that
Tim was a dedicated and thorough professional to the very end. The department and the school will
struggle to fill his shoes.”
