Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
Overview
Hematology/Oncology specialists provide a wide range of diagnostic, therapeutic and comprehensive care services for infants, children and adolescents with blood disorders and/or malignancies. Diagnosis and treatment of disorders of red blood cells, including hemoglobinopathies, hemotasis and leukocytes, are available.
Multispecialty programs exist in neuro-oncology, sickle cell disease, late effects of oncology and bleeding disorders.
Special procedures available include:
- Bone marrow aspirates and biopsies
- Laboratory evaluation of bleeding and thrombotic disorders
- Lumbar punctures
- Platelet aggregation
- Von Willebrand factor analysis
- Stem-cell harvest
This Division received the "Chairman's Award for Excellence in Clinical Education" in 2010; moreoever, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology received the "Chairman's Award for Excellence in Pediatric Specialty Care" for seven consecutive years (2005 - 2011).
